ภาวะความดันหลอดเลือดปอดสูง
" ภาวะความดันหลอดเลือดปอดสูง (Pulmonary Hypertension) เป็นภาวะที่ร่างกายตอบสนองต่อความผิดปกติบางอย่าง ที่ส่งผลให้หลอดเลือดในปอดมีความต้านทานเพิ่มขึ้นทำให้ความดันเฉลี่ยหลอดเลือดแดงในปอด (mean pulmonary arterial pressure: mPAP) มากกว่า 25 mmHg ขณะพัก หรือมากกว่า 30 mmHG ขณะออกกำลังกาย และความดันเลือดฝอยในปอด (pulmonary capillary wedge pressure: PCWP) ไม่เกิน 15 mmHg และความต้านทานของหลอดเลือดในปอด (pulmonary vascular resistance: PVR) มากกว่า 3 หน่วย (Wood units) ขณะที่อัตราการไหลของเลือดออกจากหัวใจลดลงหรืออยู่ในเกณฑ์ปกติ"

พูดแบบชาวบ้านง่ายๆ ภาวะความดันหลอดเลือดปอดสูง ก็คือการที่ร่างกายมีความผิดปกติ ทำให้ความดันภายในหลอดเลือดปอดมีค่าสูงมากผิดปกติ

เป็นอาการของเลือดที่ไหลไปยังส่วนปลายของร่างกายเช่นเท้าและไหลเวียนกลับมาสู่ปอดและหัวใจได้ไม่หมด ทำให้คั่งอยู่บริเวณต่างๆ เหล่านั้น ลักษณะจะคล้ายผู้ป่วยโรคหัวใจ เนื่องจากอาจจะมีโรคหัวใจร่วมด้วยเช่นหัวใจโต (หัวใจห้องล่างขวาโต)
